Over the last decade Xmas has died around our house.
Because of building restrictions we can't have a real tree.
So, the first winter here, in our apartment, we smuggled one in.
After driving around the outskirts of the city trying to find one to cut down I finally figure, with the price of gas, it was cheaper to buy one.
Then we had to smuggle it out again, wrapping it in large bags so as not to leave a trail of needles.
The next winter we bought an artificial one.
Figured that would be cheaper over the years to come.

However, after that we were never home during the winter.
My sister in law ended up with our tree and our lights.
For the past couple of winters we have been home but I can't find any replacement bulbs for my old strands and I detest the looks of the new `energy efficent' crap so I will not hang those from my balcony (They are so small no one would see them from the ground).
So, now, if we can't afford to travel during Xmas, this is our tree.

Actually, it is so small we could take it with us if go.

Merry Xmas, to you & yours, from me, & mine.

MERRY XMAS

12- 12- 12 - the last time any of us will see a triple digit date.
The next one isn’t until 2101/01/01
As you know, I usually send my Es out on weekends, but, as this weekend most of you will be leaving for the holidays, I wanted to get this out before you go.
After having made pages, for my website, of historic buildings in Burnaby and Vancouver’s Chinatown I spent a goodly portion of October and November researching  Vancouver’s Gastown.
I have found several websites, some of which proclaim to be Heritage Societies, but they seem to have conflicting data and none of them seem to be recognized by the City of Vancouver.
From the societies I only get answering machines, and unanswered E mails. Calling city hall I only get directed to the City of Vancouver Archives.
Using information from; the Fire Maps of the City of Vancouver Archives, personal knowledge I gained during my years living in Gastown, and non conflicting facts garnered from various websites, I hereby present MY `HISTORICAL BUILDINGS OF VANCOUVER’S GASTOWN’.
And `NO’ I didn’t find any truth to the rumour that Blood Alley is haunted.
As well, I have added some more pictures to my `Oregon’ page.
And I added a page about a nice little heritage, and fishing, lake in Surrey.
I have been adding about 40 pics a day to my California page but I won’t get it finished this week. Maybe not even before Xmas.  I have so many pics I took in that sate.  Lots of sorting to do yet.
I will probably have it ready for you next month as I don’t have any travel plans for Xmas.
So, as we say, in Canada, MERRY CHRISTMAS, to you, and yours.
Yours
Lee

OBNOXIOUS SPAM

Do you ever get these kind of E mails?

Greetings to you and your family, I am Mrs. Amanda Davidson, a widow to Late Engr. Alex Davidson A DEVOTED CHRISTIAN, I am 64 years old suffering from long time cancer of the breast.

From all indications my condition is really deteriorating and it's quite obvious that I won't live more than four months according to my doctors. This is because the damage the cancer has done to me is very bad. My late husband and I during the period of our blissful marriage couldn't produce any child of our own. My late husband was very wealthy and after his death, I inherited all his business and wealth. The doctor has advised me that I may not live for more than four months but I believe God for a miracle and that it is only by the power of God that can determine my life span, so I now decided to divide part of this wealth, to contribute to the development of the less privileged /motherless homes and poor and churches in Africa, America, Asia and Europe, and most especially over there in your area where you are.

I selected you and I prayed over it and my heart accepts you as the right person to help me carry out this duty I have made for God, I am willing to donate the sum of $3,000,000.00$(Three Million U.S Dollars) which you will use $2,500,000.00 for the less privileged and the balance of $500,000.00 to you for all your efforts and any expenses incurred during the transaction. Please I want you to know that this money was deposited in Barclays Bank United Kingdom. And upon my instruction, you will have a change of ownership of the money in your name which myself and my attorney will confirmed you right.

Finally, I honestly pray that this money when released to you and will be used for the said purpose and not otherwise as you should know that, if you are interested, kindly contact me through my email: ( Amandadavidson@execs.com  ) May God be with you and your family as you has the zeal and motivation to work for God through me.

I await your response to me at once. Regards and GOD Bless.

This one is from -

Do you ever reply to them?
Do you ever send them the requested information?
Do you actually send them money?
If you have answered YES to the above questions, you deserve anything that befalls you.
The Es are so blatant it defines logic as to why anyone would get involved with these people.
Note the two return addresses.
My self, I add their Email address to my spam list and then I send them the following reply...

I will be happy to assist you in this endeavour but first I need some verification as to your identity.

To this end please send me a photograph of you (or your wife) participating in the Parade.

In this case I will add….
Wow,
Your English is almost perfect.
Far better than most of the ones I receive.
Definitely the most winded (longest).
Good luck with ripping off you fellow inhabitants of this planet.
But remember, what goes around, comes around.

Bullying - Christy Clark

Christy Clark says she is going to attend the conference on bullying.
Maybe she will learn the definition of the term and realize how badly she and her political party are bullying the citizens of British Columbia.

Remembrance Day

November 11 is REMEMBRANCE DAY.
Unionists have turned it into a holiday.
It is not a holiday for those who fought and died or for those who stayed home and worked to support the war effort.
It is supposed to be two minutes of silence.
I have shown you this page, in years past.
This year I have made a couple of additions to it.

As you seemed to enjoy my page of historical buildings in Burnaby, I have completed a page about the historical locations in Chinatown

This picture is of a statue.
I believe it is made of jade.
Can anyone tell me; what it is made of?
The name of the statue?
The name of the artist?
The name of the model?
When it was made?
And what idiot decided it should be painted.
Apparently the mermaids are now flesh coloured on top and light blue on the fins.

Again

The word `again’ is pronounce `a gane’ as in; `lane,  `Spain `rain’.
It everyday life it doesn’t matter if you mispronounce it, as long as people understand what you are trying to say.
However, when singing a song.
How many famous singers, in their hit songs have mispronounced it?
Thus the song doesn’t run smoothly because the lines don’t rhyme.
Such as, “We listen to the rain,
As it started up agen.”
Just a pet peeve of mine.
It surprises me that such errors were not caught before the record was cut and distributed.

My website viewers

Sometimes I feel that no one reads my website
I wonder why I bother.
Then I will get an E like one of the following and it makes all my efforts worthwhile.

Thank you for noting what zeta-37 is
My husband went to get me something and bought the

About 20 years ago we were on vacation there.
I noticed a man with a sketch book that had
been watching us for a couple of days. On the
third day he approached me and introduced
himself. He was the artist David Rojo. He
showed me his sketches and there I was turned
into a mermaid. He asked for my permission to
use me as his muse on a sculpture that the
municipality had asked him to do. Unfortunately
David died a couple of weeks ago, but I know
that he must be very happy with what people
like you have to say about his art. He was an amazing
man and wonderful artist.

UPCOMING ELECTION - MAKE THEM EARN YOUR VOTE

This is an expansion of an E that I sent to Harry Bloy, MLA for burnaby-lougheed.
If a politician, or a political party wants my vote in the forth coming election, they must:
A: PROMISE to do away with the HST.
B: PROMISE not to replace the HST with; GST, PST, or any other tax.
C: PROMISE to allow stores to sell incandescent light bulbs.
D: PROMISE to prevent off shore drilling?
E: PROMISE to allow ICBC to license electric cars?
F: PROMISE to roll back Vince Ready’s decision regarding the film industry’s union contracts.
G: PROMISE to enforce the `No Cel phone while driving’ law.
H: PROMISE to change the law to include non electronic items such as; lipstick, notebooks, pocketbooks, flutes, etc.
I: PROMISE to tell us what their position is on all things that matter and not waste our time listening to them running down their opponent(s).
If they are not prepared to entertain any of the above legislative changes then they won’t see me at the polls and we will have another non-popular govt.

HTML PROBLEMS

I started my website about 15 yrs. ago.  I now have over 1,500 pages and over 150,000 photos and I have always stuck to hand built HTML so that people with really old computers can read it even if they can’t see the pictures.
I had two websites, that were mirrors of each other.  A year or so ago I separated them so that one had stuff that I don’t add to very often and the other had the stuff that I regularly add to.
Recently the rent came up on the domain name for Bear’s Page so I dropped it and added its contents to Lee’s Page.
When I did this the HTML changed on the home page for my novel http://www.leespage.ca/h/no/in.html .
In the middle of the page I have two lists. In each list I separate the items with <p><li>
This caused them to run, on the page, one below the other.
However, for some reason, after I added that page to Lee’s Page the fist list now runs at an angle across the page in 3 separate groups.
The second list stayed the same. Although it laps over onto the fist group so I would like to separate them.
I kind of like the way it is now but I don’t understand where all the `table html’ came from and I need to change it to separate the bottom list from the top list and to make a split between Chpt. 10 and 11.
I have tried several times but all I do is screw it up.
I was wondering if you have any suggestions?
The HTML used to look like this (and still does for the second list).
<p><li>To download Acrobat Reader, <a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html"><img src="/h/no/a/a1.jpg" border="0" height="19" width="55"> click here.</a>
<p><li>To download the <a href="/h/no/FeroE.pdf"><img src="/h/no/a/fs.jpg" width=110 height=95 align=middle alt="(Book titled `Fero' between bookends)"> entire novel as an E File,</a> (For E Book reader)
Now the HTML for the first list looks like this
<p>
<li><a href="/h/no/ch11.html">Chapter Eleven  CHARENE `54</a>
 <p><table border="0" cellspacing="0" align="left"><tr>
<th><img src="/h/no/a/11s.jpg" width="110" height="106" border="0" alt="Monk">
</table>
<p>Her life, as a Monk, until she moves to Canada and meets Trevor.
<p>
<li><a href="/h/no/ch12.html">Chapter Twelve  TREVOR</a>
<p><table border="0" cellspacing="0" align="left"><tr>
<th><img src="/h/no/a/12s.jpg" width="110" height="105" border="0" alt="prison guard">
</table>
<p>Joins the Wolseley Expedition to Ft. Garry.  Becomes a prison guard, meets Charene.  Joins the N.W.M.P. `March West' to Ft. McLeod, spring of 1874.

Thank you for viewing my videos , and reading my novel .
Not working on my videos, actually not working, has left me a lot of time, when I am not visiting doctors, to work on my website.
Over the past few weeks I have had: 2 ultra sounds, bladder and throat; two CT scans, kidney & brain; three 360 degree x-rays; upper and lower jaw, two of which were used to make a 3D view of my teeth; plus a complete blood work up.
Now I am just waiting for results and a date for an MRI of my knee.
I added some more pictures to my Alberta highway 3 page .
And I added some more pictures to my Saskatchewan highway 16 page .
I also added another page to my Alberta section, - Hwy. 4 .
And I added another page to my USA section, - Montana .

MIKE LAKE

This morning I went to Mike Lake to go fishing.
They had stocked it two weeks ago and I thought there might be some left.
Mike Lake is just a few miles North of Maple Ridge on the road to Alouette Lake.
It is a well maintained road but only open to the public during daylight hours.
It has a decent size parking lot close to a small wharf at the Southwest corner of the lake.
However, the wharf is in three sections.  The fist section closest to dry land is mounted on concrete supports, with a metal ramp  on the end to allow for rise and fall of the water level.
The second, and first floating, section of the wharf is, for some reason, not floating very high above the water on the shore end.
When you step on the metal plate it forces the end of the float below the surface.
OK, I’m overweight, but not by that much.
Ankle high boots are sufficient to keep your feet dry and the wharf will hold your weight and is fairly stable once you get to the middle.
However, the second, and second section of floating, section of the wharf system, has the same problem. If you step on the North end of the section it tends to drop below the surface of the water.
Though the water looks clear and placid I don’t think one wants to end up in the water.
Because the water is clear one can see that the bottom of the lake is covered with bodies. Bodies of fish.
Some fresh kill, some partially decomposed and some merely skeletons.
I had no desire to eat any fish that would be caught in such waters so I packed up and went home, without baiting a hook.
Why the fish are dead I have no idea.

POLLS

People love to fill out polls feeling that they are contributing something to society.

The problem is that most polls are geared to get the answer that the instigator of the poll whishes to hear.
Take for instance a recent poll regarding B. C. Hydro and their Power Smart programs.

It is obvious by the questions that the poll was at the request of B. C. Hydro and the questions are geared so that no matter how you answer them the poll will result in answers that are favourable to B. C. Hydro instead of reflecting the truth.

For instance the very last question is a multiple guess of which you can only choose one answer and nowhere in the answers is there an answer such as,` NONE OF THE ABOVE’.

There are no answers there that reflect your true feelings or would shed a negative view on the Power Smart programs and your questionnaire program won't let you continue without marking one of the choices though you don't want to mark any of them.

The correct answer is, to reduce the number of employees, and to increase the amount of profits to B. C. Hydro under the disguise of conserving energy.

It made me very angry to have to give an answer that would be favourable to something I am not in favour of.

All of the promotions by B. C. Hydro are used to disguise the fact that they want homeowners to cut back on power consumption so they have more to sell to the states, yet they do nothing to make industry cut back. and all the incentive programs are posted to the government costing the taxpayers higher taxes.
Currently they have an insulation incentive in which the government will give homeowners a rebate if they reinsulated their home.

Why should I as a taxpayer, pay to help insulate someone else’s home if it isn’t going to result in a lowering of my hydro bill, but will cause an increase in my taxes and an increase in profits to B. C. Hydro?

Or why would I be in favour of  new power smart meters that are very expensive?

The cost of these, and the cost of installation, will be passed on to me in higher hydro rates.
The installation, and use, of them will result in: increased garbage (the old ones) going to the landfill, unemployment, the meter readers that normally go to your house once a month will be laid off; B. C. Hydro will not need to replace the cars the meter readers use which means less sales for an already dying auto industry which will result in more layoffs; all these people being laid off will result in a burden on the unemployment insurance benefit program which will, again, result in higher income tax for me.

Monthly E

Thank you for viewing my video.
I now have my own Channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/Bear39224 (With over 6 videos)
Or you can just do a search on YouTube for `Bear’s Views’.
Last year at this time I did an article on Art in the City. You will find it in my articles section http://www.leespage.ca/h/ar/ac.html
`ART IN THE CITY' is a visual `art show and sale’ held, yearly, in Vancouver’s `West End Community Centre’ on Denman St.
I will be there again this year, May 11 – 13, this time with a display of my photography.
If you are in the neighbourhood stop by. There will be photographers, artists, sculptors, writers. Artisans, displaying their crafts.
Speaking of writing, have none of you ever read my novel?
I would appreciate a critique. Even if you only made it part way through the first chapter, a comment as to what you didn’t like would be appreciated.

Yours
Bear

OAP

Currently there is a lot of fear over what is to become of Canada’s OAP (Old Age Pension).
Certainly, with his involvement in the bail out of Greece, I can understand Harper’s fears of Canada falling into a similar situation.
However, unlike Greece, Canada has many ways to prevent such a disaster.
One of the fears is, where will we get the money for all the forthcoming pensioners?  Well, for one we shouldn’t reduce the number of years required to become eligible. I am talking about the mandate that requires a new citizen to be a resident for 10 years. Now they want to reduce that to 3 years. That alone will triple the number of new pensioners.  This should be reversed. To reduce the number of pensioners increase the requirement to 20 years or better yet, to be eligible a person must have been born in Canada.
Finding sufficient funds is not a problem, just reduce, or do away with, the extravagant pension that was recently awarded to members of Parliament.
They certainly haven’t done anything, or been on the job long enough, to deserve a pension.  In any other business an employee has to be with the company for 20 years.  Why should they, or a new comer to Canada, be in line for a pension after only 3 years?

SECURITY & VEILS

Lately there has been a lot of controversy about Muslim women removing their face cover at customs check ins.
How did these women get passports or other photo ID if they didn’t remove their niqab for the photographer?
And how is any Gov’t official supposed to compare the passport, or photo ID, if they don’t have a face to compare it to.
It could be a man beneath all those robes.
Obviously, (no pun intended) unless technology has advanced retina scanning to the point of perfection, a person, any person, regardless of race, or religion, must bare their  face, to any officer of the law, to confirm identification.

DON'T GO ELECTRIC

The biggest problem facing the planet today is overpopulation. From this stems all our other problems; pollution, shortage of food and water, and unemployment.

Shortage of oil is a cry that is expounded by the oil companies. Since the early `70s they have used it to advocate their demands for higher prices. The gouging by the oil barrons has led the populace to seek other forms of transportation.

One such alternate form is the all-electric car. Once the battery companies release the batteries that will allow a full size passenger van to run many; miles, and hours, between short charge-ups the oil companies will wake up. When oil plummets on the stock market and the shareholders vote the CEOs out of office they will realize that they carried their hoax too far.

Many believe that this is a good thing.  Payback.

However, the laying off of million-dollar-salaried executives is only the tip of an ice berg. The thousands of people around the world who are employed in the oil industry;  exploration companies, drill rig crews, refinery employees, tank truck drivers, service station employees, to name but a few, will also find themselves out of work

Yet this too, is but the tip of an ice berg. The larger ice berg is the automotive industry.
One normally thinks of the auto industry as the big plants of: Ford, or GMC, in N. America; Daimler, or Volvo, in Europe; Nissan, or Mitsubishi, in the Orient.  Again the tip of an ice berg.
Look below the surface and you will find the millions of workers in the small plants all over the world.  The people who; design, build, ship, and warehouse all the little pieces required to make a non electric car operate efficiently; fans, fan belts, heaters, heater hoses, hose clamps, antifreeze, radiators, radiator caps. The list goes on and so does the unemployment.

When electric cars become efficient, and affordable, the world will flock to their sales lot. It won’t take years to happen, it will happen over night.  The cars, as we know them today, will have no trade in value and will be abandoned on the side of the street.

Everywhere, in every country, little plants will close down and people will become unemployed, with no pension plan, and no nest egg set aside. All governments will become burdened with welfare cases and most of them will collapse for lack of funds to support their citizens.

ARNIE HAD THE ANSWER

During his pre-election campaign Arnold Schwarzenegger said that he would arrange for hydrogen to be readily available for cars, throughout California, to switch from gasoline.
Of course this never happened, but it should have.

Not only is hydrogen a nonpolluting fuel, if manufactured, and supplied, by the big oil companies it would mean their continued existence, services stations would still be required, as would fuel tankers, and refineries.  But more importantly so would all the other thousands of employees who are directly, and indirectly, involved in the manufacture and maintenance of the internal combustion engine.
As much as I would run out and buy a new van if it was of sufficient size to actually do some work and was capable of running for hours, and miles, on a battery charge, I would, for the sake of the world economy, much rather see the oil companies offer us an inexpensive, non-polluting alternative.

HST - WHEN WILL IT GO?

The Liberal Party says that it will take 19 months to get rid of the HST.
Last month I had reason to phone HST.
I got into a shouting match and I told the lady that she shouldn’t even be working, we had voted HST out.
She told me that she didn’t work for HST, she works for GST.
That was a short 19 months.
Yet Chrusty Clark is still saying it will be another ?? months.
And she is still failing to accept that HST includes PST and GST.
If we voted against HST, we voted to remove both, GST and PST.
