SUPERNATURAL - SEASON 7?
The wrap party was held last night but I didn't go. Just too tired.
Rumour had it that they were going to announce, last night, at the party, if there would be a season 7, or not.
Can't imagine, for the life of me, why there wouldn't be, but one never knows what passes through the minds of bean counters and they always have the final decision.
I, for one, am looking forward to the end of this season. I’ll bet the boys are too.
It's been a long winter; rain, snow, sleet, wind. The cast and crew are all in need of a long break; time to unlax, time with the family, time to travel, etc.
Though some of the cast, and many of the crew will move onto other productions.
One mega production just wrapped in the studio next to us and another mega is already moving in before the last one is out. Course that’s what they did to the previous tenants.
One coming in and one leaving and both using our driveway to park their trucks while we are trying to get in and out to go to different locations.
And let me tell you we have really had some different locations over the past while. From downtown city to a pleasant little lake surrounded by forest, still within city limits, and don’t think I don’t envy the person that lives in that fantastic log cabin on the water’s edge.

REPLY TO - REPLY TO PROMISES
HST has not increased the budget to any government departments but has done a great deal to decrease the spending of the average citizen, and tourist, which is harming our economy.
By doing away with HST the average person would be in a better position to buy consumer goods such as homes and groceries which would stimulate the economy.

REPLY TO PROMISES
I have read over your demands of an elected official to promise the 9 items below to gain your future support. I challenge you to present your suggestions to replace the revenue lost from the HST to pay for the items we use. Items like Health Care, Education etc that are important and that we need to make sure that the level of service remains high. Just interested in your input.

POLITICAL PROMISES
If a politician, or a political party wants my vote in the forth coming election, they must:
A: PROMISE to do away with the HST.
B : PROMISE not to replace the HST with; GST, PST, or any other tax.
C: PROMISE to allow stores to sell incandescent light bulbs.
D: PROMISE to prevent off shore drilling?
E: PROMISE to allow ICBC to license electric cars?
F: PROMISE to roll back Vince Ready’s decision regarding the film industry’s union contracts.
G: PROMISE to enforce the `No Cel phone while driving’ law.
H: PROMISE to change the law to include non electronic items such as; lipstick, notebooks, pocketbooks, flutes, etc.
I: PROMISE to tell us what their position is on all things that matter and not waste our time listening to them running down their opponent(s).
If they are not prepared to entertain any of the above legislative changes then they won’t see me at the polls and we will have another non-popular govt.

INCANDESCENT BULBS
Although when I see how blindly the general population follows the edicts of the decision makers, I sometimes wonder if there is any difference.
I used to enjoy driving, or walking, around and viewing the beautiful displays of lights put up by; private citizens, corporations, and/or municipalities.
However, after viewing the; weak, tiny, dull, lights that the environmentalists have thrust upon us, I certainly will save my energy and stay home, next Xmas.
Now I am told that we are to forsake the ROUND GLOBES that light our daily lives, the ones that we could buy for less than a dollar, to save the environment by purchasing, at much greater expense, some atrocious looking, twisted, glass, snake that is non-disposable because it is not environmentally friendly.
And before you jump down my throat and start calling me an aniti-enviromentalist, stop and think of how much waste is going to be produced when you have to start throwing out all the old fixtures that won’t be compatible with the new light bulbs.
How many table lamps do you have in your house that have shades that slip over a round bulb. Will the shades fit on the new bulbs? Are you prepared to buy new table lamps? For bulbs that cost you 20 to 50 times more than a regular bulb.
Are you prepared to pay more taxes to buy fixtures in the school gym, exit signs, etc. because the new bulbs aren’t compatible with the old housings.
And are you prepared to pay the gas to run down to the disposal centre every time one of these things burns out – because you can’t throw them in the garbage. Wanna bet?

MERRY XMAS
Why is it that every time I go on a holiday, upon my return, I have to visit my favourite dentist?
This time I broke the porcelain off the front of my bridge. Don’t think that isn’t going to cost more then my short trip to Prince George.
My thanks to, Sheila, the cook, for a scrumpdillicous meal. It’s not her fault I bit the fork tine instead of the pork.
And our thanks to Paul for putting us up, and putting up with us.
It was a short hectic holiday, even more hectic when the windshield wipers quit on the way back, during heavy sleet in the Fraser Canyon.
As I said in my last E, my novel - FERO - is finally published. However no one had bought it yet, at least no one has sent me a critique, My Goddaughter read it, half way, through the first chapter and then quit. She said there is too much sex in it and I am a dirty old man. “Thank you“, I replied.
You can find it on AMAZON. If you read it, I would appreciate a critique. You can put it in Amazon as a review, or send it to me and I will add it to my webpage.
In my last E I told you I have some of my photos hanging in a gallery (Smart Frames) in Metrotown, and have posted some on `Zazzle’. - https://www.zazzle.ca/bear23* Also you will now find them at `Frameworks Gallery’ in Prince George.
I have added another baker’s dozen, jokes that is.
Wishing you and yours the best of the season

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Though my pre-Xmas trip to P. G. (Prince George) was short, and hectic, I did find one morning of sunshine, and the time to take some pictures of the old bridge.
I also took some pictures, though most of them turned out blurry, of a lady training her dog, well, actually a horse, but she trains it to do dog type tricks.
When your windshield wipers quit on you, find a store and get some Rainex. At speeds over 20 Km/h it is better than wipers.
As I said in my last E, my novel - FERO - is finally published. However it is still available for free at the bottom of my `NOVEL PAGE’.
Post Xmas was hectic here. Three new computers came into the house. This is coming to you from my, newer, Mac Pro. So, if you are looking for a good G5
Wishing you and yours all the best in the NEW YEAR

VOLVO TRUCKS

NOISY TRUCKS ARE SAFER
Fear not, your tax dollar that paid for the city council to debate, for hours, and even weeks, on how to word the sign, and for the crew to install the signs, have not been wasted.
Truckers do read those signs and they do comply.
Let me explain how.
You probably think that truckers run around with engine brakes turned on and when they see such signs they turn their; Jacob’s, Jake, Cummins, Mack, Pacbrake, or engine brakes off.
Actually, just the opposite is true.
A city or sign can not legally tell a trucker, or any other driver to operate a vehicle in an unsafe manner. Nothing could be more unsafe than telling a driver to turn off his brakes.
An engine brake, called Jake or Jacob’s brakes were originally manufactured by a company called Jacobs. When they were invented they were quickly adapted to be used on busses. Don’t think that every commercial bus that you see on the highway isn’t equipped with them, and I’ll tell you why
One day, foolishly, and anyone who knows me will tell you I often do foolish things, I, in accordance with a city bylaw, turned my engine brakes off. (Not Jake, as I have a Volvo motor in my big highway rig.) A car stopped, unexpectedly, in front of me. I quickly pulled my foot off the throttle (gas pedal) and slammed it down on the brake pedal. I have, without a word of a lie, one of the fastest reaction times of all drivers. (How fast can you remove your foot from a depressed position on the gas to a depressed position on the brake?)
I managed to stop without doing any damage to the car but I did bump it. If I had had my Jake brake turned on I would not have hit her at all.
The reason is, the instant you take your foot of f the throttle, the computer, if the switch is in the on position, turns the engine brake on and by the time your foot travels, only a split second, from the gas pedal to the brake pedal, and pushes the pedal, the engine brake has already reduced the speed of the truck by many miles per hour.
An exact opposite situation occurred one day when I was South bound through the s curve, where Clark Dr. becomes Victoria Dr. As I came through the last part of the curve the light ahead of me turned green and as the lane ahead of me was empty I stepped on the throttle. As I did so a car pulled out of a side street in front of me. The young lady never slowed down for the crosswalk let alone stop for the red light. She never at anytime looked to left or right.
Instantly I transferred my foot from the gas to the brake. My truck stopped with my bumper, about 1 inch from her back bumper as she sped across in front of me.
If my engine brake had not been in the on position I would have hit her in the driver’s door and she would not be alive today. (With the way she drives she may not be as this was some months ago.)
I get a laugh out of the sign on Boundary Rd. on the steep hill going down to the intersection at Marine Way, `USE ENGINE BRAKES ONLY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY’. If it is an emergency it is much too late to be reaching around the dash looking for the switch to turn on the engine brakes. By the time you find it the emergency will be over.
People complain about the noise of the Jake brakes, but believe me the noise would be a lot louder if a truck, not using its engine brakes, was to be unable to stop and hit a truck full of fuel. The resultant explosion would be heard for miles.
So, why do you hear Jake brakes when there is a sign that says `no engine brakes allowed’?
Because professional drivers know that such signs are general placed at the top of a hill and at the bottom of a hill there is inevitably a stop sign or a red light. By using their engine brakes to hold back that heavy load down the hill they keep their main brakes cool enough to be able to stop at the bottom.
To a trucker, all those signs read, `DANGER, HILL, OR CONGESTED AREA, AHEAD. PLEASE, SAVE A LIFE, USE YOUR ENGINE BRAKES.’ Remember the child in that school bus may be yours.
However, for those of you who, like me, abhor noise pollution, peace is on its way. New trucks, for the past five or more years, have developed exhaust systems that curtail the noise of the engine, and the engine brakes. The newest rigs, including mine which is 3 years old, are so quiet, when the jakes are on, that you, standing by the road, would not know they were on.

DAYS OFF
I don't work when they are in studio, I think they will be out on location tomorrow, which could mean they will call me, later today, for a move tonight, so that gives me most of today to sit inside where it is warm and dry. And I do need the time to update; my BLOG, my TWITTER, and my ZAZZLE.
I have spent a lot of time over the last few days working on my PHOTOGRAPHS. I have made changes to some and added a few more on the PHOTO section of my website - `LEE'S PAGE'.
`Speak of the devil' my boss just called me to come in for a move today and work for the rest of the week. (First two days of the next episode and then they are closed for the week of (the American) thanksgiving. [In Canada we only close for 1 day (in October).] So it looks like aI might get wet after all. However with this wind the storm could have blown away by then.
The wife had agreed to go to the Dominican Republic for next week, if we could find some cheap price tickets. BUT we didn't find any really good prices and with the fear of hurricanes, (She was followIng `THOMAS' on the news) we are not going. So I will probably book in on a different show.
Now, where was I before I was so rudely interrupted?
Oh, yeah, Zazzle.
Over the last while I have been uploading my latest photo work to Zazzel but when I click on the link I only get my previous postings. All my latest postings are there if I log in but that doesn't let you see them so I have to go in and figure that out.
So I better drop this, finish brekky, and get into Zazzle.
Later - Bear
PS: Did I mention that I have finally, after all these years of chasing agents, and publishers, managed to get my novel `FERO' published? It is available on AMAZON. Be the second to post a review.

SUPER NATURAL CAR WRECK
The speeding car swerves to its right and T-bones a vehicle parked too close to the intersection. Demolishing the station wagon the car pushes it up over the curb and across the sidewalk, burying a crash box.
The very expensive camera inside the crash box, now hidden by the wrecked station wagon, survives, undamaged, and has recorded its version of the event.
Other cameras; overhead, on the street, around the corner, and in the vehicles, have also recorded, successfully, a mock accident, on a mock street, in a Warner Brs. back lot, which exceeded the expectations of; director, and crew, on an episode of Supernatural.
And `no’ I didn’t get a picture of it - cameras are not allowed on set.

VACATION RESORTS

LOCATED ON THE BEACH, IT IS THE SECOND LARGEST SWIMMING POOL IN THE WORLD.
If you have the desire to get away this winter, or summer, and are thinking about somewhere exotic, check out my, VACATION RESORTS.
Let me rephrase that. They are not my resorts but I do have a room in two. One on the Caribbean Sea and the other on the Pacific Ocean.
I can rent you one, or two weeks, nearly any time of the year.
One word of caution, winter season books early, I mean real early, so, unfortunately you need to book early.
Let me tell you what I have.
On the East coast, between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, on the beach, on what is known as the Mayan Riviera, I have a hotel unit with two queen size beds. You have your choice of: ground; second; or third floor. This means you have a choice of; balcony, or patio.
And here’s a little twist, you don’t have to sleep in your room. You can sleep beside the pool. The Mayan Palace resorts are famous for their large pools. (The resort in Acapulco has the largest pool in the world.)
The pool at the Grand Mayan, isn’t quite that large but it does have beds around the pool so you can sleep out doors.
For those of you who don’t like swimming in a pool, the resort is situated on the beach of a barrier reef, the second largest in the world.
The resort is approximately half way between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, but you don’t need a car. There are shuttles that will take you to either town or just to the highway where you can catch a bus. Busses run, approximately, every fifteen minutes and only cost, about, 20 pesos.
For those of you who want to go snorkeling or scuba diving there are endless possibilities. Including underground in fresh water cenotes.
For touring, you are, approximately, equal distance between the ferries to Cozumel or Isla Mujeres.
Both are must see places if you have never been before and don’t want to just sit in the sun and relax.
Even if you are the relaxing type, a must see is the day tour to Xcaret.
To see more about any of the places I mention, just click on the highlighted words.
There is also evening entertainment in the resort itself, in the open air restaurant.
Oh, did I mention the 18 hole golf course, on the grounds, designed by Jack Nicklaus?
Not quite the end.
I still want to tell you about Mazatlan.
On the West Coast, of Mexico, where you can see: seals; sea lions; dolphins; and several species of whales that migrate to that area of the Pacific ocean.
Two bedroom suites with: full-service amenities; beachfront; 3 swimming pools, including one that is heated; gym; aerobics classes; convenience mini-market; boutique; restaurant; seafood bar; pool bar; and only 10 minutes from the main nightlife and restaurant section of Mazatlan.
Mazatlan is only a short bus ride from Puerto Vallarta, or a ferry ride to the Baja Peninsula.
Sorry I have no pictures but check out their site in my Related Web Sites section.
If you would like to rent my hotel room at the Grand Mayan, $1,095/wk, or my 2 bedroom suite in the Sea Garden, $850/wk, drop me a line, telling me which dates you wish to enjoy paradise and I will get back to you with availability.

SHARING the STREETS Week I Intro

350 yr. old cactus near Petatlan, Mexico.
ATTEMPTING TO SHARE SOMEONE ELSE'S SPACE CAN OFTEN LEAD TO CONFRONTATION.
WE MUST ALL LEARN TO SHARE OUR DWINDLING SPACES
Each week I will add to this column.
SHARING THE STREETS
Week One - Introduction
by
LEE A. WOOD
Each of us can help reduce `Road Rage' by simply being courteous to our fellow users of the streets.
We are not alone on this overcrowded planet and as the population grows the space that is around us shrinks.
Road rage is becoming more prevalent as we increase the number of vehicles on our roadways and street rage is also becoming more common, as the number of people on the sidewalks increases.
Everyone wants to have their space and we all feel violated when someone enters our space uninvited. What we have to realize is that the space is not ours. All spaces belong to everyone and though we may momentarily fill a space, as we move about, we are only using it temporarily, as was the person before us, as is the next person to come along. If one or more persons should occupy the same space at the same time we must all realize that this is inevitable and should not become upset by it.
As well as spending a lot of time and miles as a pedestrian, I have driven professionally for over thirty years. I have driven police cars, taxis, busses, and trucks. I have driven tractor trailers from coast to coast accumulating over one million accident free miles.
Laws quoted in this column are those of: The Motor Vehicle Act of the province of British Columbia Canada; and the Traffic By-laws of the City of Vancouver.
Next week I will share with you my optimistic, and futuristic, view of how technology will cure road rage and automotive air pollution.

WENZHOU, ZHEJIANG, P. R. CHINA

WANG HAN CASUAL DRESSING PLAZA.
In Dec. of `04 we took our nephew, and his new bride, on a honeymoon, as a wedding present, to YanDang Mountain Park. Wenzhou is the closest, major, centre.
Although it was not tourist season, early December, it was difficult to get seats on the train.
A seat to Wenzhou from Shanghai cost Y94.
Later in the evening we arranged, for an extra Y375, for seven of us, for beds that would come vacant in the middle of the night. Each bed is narrow and there are three, from floor to ceiling, on each side of the little rooms. The price for the beds vary, depending on whether you are on the top, bottom, or in the middle.
We were only in Wenzhou, twice, for a total of 6 hours.
Wenzhou is a city, about 250 KM, South of Hang Zhou.
It has a population equal to Vancouver, B. C. Canada, About 1.5 Million.
It services a surrounding population of another 5 Million.
This story is a bit longer and has many pictures.
To read the rest of the story, and see the pictures, go to my website at http://www.bearspage.info/h/tra/ch/we.html or click here.
